Art Guidelines

Vector Files (*.ai or *.eps)  (Preferred file type)

  • Vector files are mostly created in Adobe® Illustrator.

  • Consists of points, lines and curves as opposed to pixels.

  • Not resolution dependent. The resolution does not change when the size is changed; small or large, it has the same quality.

  • Illustrator files containing special effects (transparencies, gradients, etc.) can produce unexpected results when printed. Files with effects should be saved in raster format.

*Please note that we need all text converted to outlines and CMYK or PMS (solid coated) fills.

Raster Files (.jpg, .tif, .PSD, .bmp OR .PNG)

  • Bitmap files are mostly created by digital cameras & Adobe® Photoshop.

  • Resolution dependent, containing a finite number of pixels. If you enlarge a bitmap image, it will lose detail and quality.

  • For a raster image to print clearly, we prefer to have the image set at a minimum of 150 dpi at full size and proportionally scaled to size.

*No .gifs please.

PDF Files (Portable Document Format)

  • A standard for representing electronic documents, allowing them to be transmitted and reproduced accurately.

  • PDFs may be created using any software (i.e. InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, QuarkXPress, Corel Draw and Microsoft® Programs).
